One of the best-known figures in the global literary landscape of Florence Dante Alighieri. In the early Middle Ages the city was a free commune and in the thirteenth century the whole town and the area was not only shocked by the bitter struggle between Guelphs and Ghibellines. Renaissance Florence was under the government of the Medici, the aristocratic Florentine family who gave a major boost town identity and development of the arts. A figure of all to Lorenzo de’ Medici “the Magnificent (1449-1492).

Fabulous fireworks on June 24 conclude Florence‘s celebrations to St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of the city. In the late afternoon, the historical football match – Calcio Storico – is played in Piazza Santa Croce. The Calcio Storico commemorates a similar match played by a soldier trapped in the city in 1530. This Renaissance soccer game is played by teams from four neighborhoods in Florence: Santa Croce (blue), Santo Spirito (white), Santa Maria Novella (red), and San Giovanni (green). The game is a combination of soccer, rugby, and big time wrestling, all played while wearing 16^th century costumes.

This summer ZZ Top, the most famous beards in the Rock and Roll world will perform in Rome.

The band hails from Texas and it has retained its original lineup for 40 years: Billy Gibbons, vocals and guitar; Joseph Dusty Hill, vocals keyboards and bass and Frank Beard, drums and percussion. Their sound, heavily influenced by blues, is as representative of American popular culture as the long beards of the band’s singers who starting sporting their characteristic look in 1979.

The tickets for the concert will be available shortly through Internet. The venue is yet to be defined.

Vatican Museums

Colosseum, Palatino and Roman Forum

COLOSSEUM: The edifice of four floors, with a total height of 52 metres and an extension covering and elliptical area of about 19000 square metres, is with no doubt the most reknown symbol of Rome all over the world.

PALATINO: The museum is located in Caesar’s Palace where, among the monuments collected from the hill site, various artefacts of Iron Age tombs and works of art from imperial buildings are exhibited. The Palatino was also the centre for some important cults as, for example, that of Magna Mater (Cibele). Between the second and first centuries B.C. it became a residential quarter for the Roman aristocracy.

National Roman Museum

TERME DI DIOCLEZIANO:
The Bath of Diocleziano is one of the four seats of the National Roman Museum, the others being Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps and Crypta Balbi.

the Crypta Balbi represents a development of Roman society and the urban landscape from antiquity to modern times

PALAZZO MASSIMO:
The Palazzo Massimo alle Terme houses part of the Museo Nazionale Romano, one of the world’s greatest collections of ancient art. It provides a magnificent showcase for some of the most beautiful paintings, mosaics and sculptures of the Roman age.

PALAZZO ALTEMPS:
The Palace of Altemps is one of the most interesting examples of the Renaissance architecture in Rome. Since 1997 it has been one of the four centres which comprise the National Roman Museum.
